Well, here we are, six days post Thanksgiving and I don’t know about you, but my jeans are still feeling a leeetle bit snug. Every year I go into the holidays telling myself I’m going to do better this year and keep the eating under control.
And every year I fail miserably.
I just can’t change my food loving ways. I absolutely have to try everything on the spread. And even if it’s just a few bites, it still seems like I walk away with a plate that weighs about five pounds. How in the world does that happen??
Needless to say, I had a very filling turkey day. Add a couple days of leftovers and I was certainly ready to recharge and refresh. Enter this little green smoothie guy.
Now, ordinarily when I do the smoothie thing, I go tropical all the way. But this time I decided to change things up and use some fruit that we always have on hand during these winter months.
Those little clementine oranges are abundant in our house this time of year. Delicious, convenient and just plain cute – how can I resist? Every winter I load us up with them and hope I’m warding off some snot-nosed kids viruses with the extra Vitamin C.
To the oranges, I added some green grapes (on sale at my local grocery store – holla!) for a little added sweetness.
And no green smoothie would be complete without, well, the greens! I typically use baby spinach becaussssse… I have a confession to make.
I don’t really like kale.
I know. I know! I call myself a healthy food blogger. That’s like, probably supposed to make me synonymous with kale lover… but… I just can’t. I’ve tried, believe me, I’ve tried hard. I’m sorry kale, it’s not you, it’s… well, yeah, actually, it’s you. You’re kinda bitter.
But if you love kale then KALE IT UP. Maybe you have a future in health food blogging?
Whew, thanks for letting me get that off my chest. Now that my kale tangent is over, let’s recap: clementines, grapes, greens of your choice. Next: greek yogurt for a smidge of protein, plus chia seeds to thicken it up a little. Five ingredients + blender = my new favorite wintertime green smoothie. So easy, you can even make one while wiping a snot-nosed kid.
- ½ cup plain greek yogurt
- 1 cup green grapes
- 3 clementine oranges
- 2 cups packed spinach
- 2 tablespoons chia seeds (optional)
- Place yogurt, grapes, oranges and spinach in a blender and blend until smooth.
- Stir or blend in chia seeds based on your preference.
- Allow to sit for at least 10 minutes, preferably overnight.
